6 At-Home Microneedling Tips For Incredible Results

Hey, Lovelies!

At-home microneedling gets a bad rap. However, done correctly it can be hugely beneficial offering incredible results. Before reading on, a little advice: should you have active acne, rosacea or sensitive skin, at-home dermarolling will not be for you. However, for those who have acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines and uneven skin texture, microneedling will like unearthing some secret treasure!

What Is Microneedling?

Credit: Free Gifs/Giphy

Microneedling (or dermarolling) is the process of using a microneedlng tool to encourage collagen and elastin production. The roller is covered in tiny needles that penetrate the skin. It sounds hideous – but actually, the at-home devices don’t hurt. Expect a red-looking face and an irritating tingling sensation. The idea is for skin, in an effort to heal, will produce more collagen and elastin.  The result is a firmer, smoother, and more youthful complexion. Hooray!

Professional treatments offer great results. These are done with larger needles and comes with necessary downtime. However, done correctly (and with a good tool), you can achieve an amazing outcome in the comfort of your own home. Incorporate micro-needling into your weekly skincare routine and transform your complexion.

Why Do People Have Bad Reactions To Microneedling?

Credit: Free Gif/Giphy

Some people report having really bad reactions. This can be for several reasons: If you have skin concerns as mentioned above; if you purchase a tool that isn’t initially sanitised/or isn’t from a good supplier; applying a serum after micro-needling that causes a reaction, and incorrect usage of the derma roller.

Tips For Effective Usage:

1. Buy from A Reputable Supplier

6 tips for incredible microneedling results at home
Credit: Swiss Clinic

There are many cheap derma rollers available online. However, they may be ineffective or cause unwanted reactions. It is better to do your research and invest in a reputable skincare brand/source. I love Swiss Clinic’s Microneedling Treatment, £125, www.swissclinic.com

2.Apply To Clean Skin

Ensure your skin is clean before using a derma roller. There should be no residue of anything on your face.

3.Apply Correctly/Do Not Rub In

Gently roll the micro-needling device in strokes over your face in one direction. Next, follow the same steps in the opposite direction. DO NOT rub hard or dig the tool into the skin.

4. Always Keep Microneedle Tool Clean

6 tips at home microneedling incredible results
Credit: Swiss Clinic

After use, always clean your device and put it safely away in the casing provided.

5. Be Careful What Skincare Products You Apply After Use

My advice would be to steer clear of products such as peels or retinol after using the device. Ceramides, hyaluronic acid and peptides are a great option. Use the derma roller last thing at night, applying your skincare and allow the skin to recover.

6. Do Not Over-Use / Use Correct Size

At most, the device should be used no more than twice a week – once is preferable depending on the size. Although the needles are not as long as a clinician’s device, they still penetrate the skin and should be used with care. Remember different sized heads treat varying concerns. My advice is to start small (0.25) and work your way up. Never go above 1.5mm unless you are being treated in a clinician’s office.

Banish Hyperpigmentation: 5 Treatments That Actually Deliver

Hey, Lovelies!

Hyperpigmentation can creep up on our beautiful faces without any warning whatsoever. One day you aren’t familiar with the word. The next you are being told you have it, and no, it doesn’t wash off! Fortunately, when it comes to banishing hyperpigmentation, there exist some treatments that actually deliver good results. Read on to find the treatments that actually rid us of the annoying skin issue. So, go ahead and restore balance to your world. I mean, seriously – we’ve had enough to contend with, without our skin freaking out and changing too!

What Is Hyperpigmentation?

Omage of hyperpigmentation on body
Credit: Wikipedia.org

Pigmentation basically means the colouring of skin. Hyperpigmentation is a condition that causes your skin to darken. Although some medical conditions can trigger this, it is usually harmless and just very annoying. As we age, we develop age spots. This type of pigmentation is often noticed on the cheeks. Over-exposure to sunlight, hormones, and aging can contribute to this pesky skin concern.

The Best Treatments For Hyperpigmentation (During Lockdown)

1.Best Cream: NeoStrata Pigment Controller, £60 (30ml), www.lookfantastic.com

NeoStrata pigment controller
Credit: NeosStrata

Are you sick and tired of waking up to notice uneven skin tone, dark patches, and discolouration? If so, this is the answer to your skin woes. Combining an array of proven complexion-saving ingredients, this outstanding formula provides transformative results. Featuring:

Retinol – Proven to treat uneven skin, dark spots, and lines/wrinkles.

NeoGlucosamine®  – This innovative component gently, yet effectively exfoliates.

SabiWhite -Containing superior antioxidant benefits.  Slows the process of melanogenesis, enabling skin lightening.

Alpine Plant Extracts – These plant extracts are shown to be highly beneficial in tackling tyrosinase. This otherwise produces melanin, and pigmentation.

Vitamin C – This amazing ingredient offers huge anti-aging and anti-inflammatory abilities.  It also thwarts the onset of melanin production, too. Vitamin C targets and lightens hyperpigmentation.

Vitamin E – Used in conjunction with vitamin C. The vitamins complement each other in achieving skin lightening results.

2.Best Peel: Caudalie Glycolic Peel, £22 (75ml) www.cultbeauty.co.uk

Treatments that delievr results for pigmentation

Caudalie has to be one of my all-time favourites and their peel formula gives game-changing results. Glycolic peels are another good remedy for the problem of hyperpigmentation. This non-irritation resurfacing treatment will exfoliate, refine, and renew your complexion. Caudalie offers a noticeable brightening effect. Brimming with grape-sourced viniferine, the peel provides a bucketload of antioxidant value. Expect a complexion that’s nothing short of healthy luminosity!

3.Green Light Therapy – Talika Pigment Control Anti-Dark Spots Device, £80 (Was £89), www.currentbody.com

Banish hyperpigmentation: 5 treatments that actually feliver - talika
Credit: Current Body

The treatments mentioned here will improve hyperpigmentation. Should the problem remain, the Talika Device may be a better option. This is because topical benefits can only go so far. Ordinarily, for optimal benefits you may choose a dermatologist’s laser therapy. However, during this weird situation in which we find ourselves, an at-home device is the answer.

The Talika Pigment Control instrument is an anti-aging device that provides green light therapy. It targets dark spots on the face, décolletage, and hands. This device emits a 525 nm Wavelength, that regulates melanocyte processes. It’s ionic microcurrents stimulate the skin’s healing power and allows for maximum absorption of pigment controlling creams. The Talika has shown good overall results.

4.Retin-A: Tretinoin (Prescription Only)

Tretinoin is a prescription-only Retin-A product. Extremely powerful, this component greatly aids in dealing with acne, hyperpigmentation, and surface wrinkles. If you have tried retinol and other treatments don’t seem to work, this may help. However, those with sensitive skin do not tolerate this ingredient very well.

5.Microdermabrasion: Exuviance Triple Microdermabrasion Face Polish, £50.94, www.facethefuture.co.uk

leave lockdown what you need to know
Credit: Face The Future

I tried this face polish some time back and consider this to be as professional-grade as you can get at home. It may be due to the professional grade crystals included. Combining glycolic acid and papaya extract, the incredible formula provides superior resurfacing results. The treatment: brightens, evens skin tone, polishes, and generally transforms the look and feel of the skin. I would be amazed if you tried the face polish and were disappointed.

This Is How To Look After Face Mask-Infused Skin

Hey, Lovelies!

It is now recommended that UK residents wear a face mask when shopping. Important as it is to protect ourselves and others, we want to limit potential problems that occur with face mask-infused skin. Issues such as acne, rosacea, and skin sensitivity may worsen. For everyone else, it can result in breakouts of inflammation and irritation. Here’s how to take care of your skin so you can nip any potential skin concerns in the bud.

1. Take A Break From Makeup When Wearing A Face Mask

    Credit: Giphy/Free Gifs

Concealer and foundation are a no-no when you wear your face mask. After all, no one will see your face, anyway. All it will do is further aggravate your skin. Your skin sweats under a mask, clogging your pores and causing irritation. Wearing makeup under your mask in the heat and during exercise – not a good look.

2. Choose Wisely: LIPOELASTIC Protective Face Mask, £5.99, www.lipoelastic.co.uk

this is how to look after your face mask infused skin - protective face mask
Credit: lipoelastic.co.uk

It’s obvious that some Covid-19 protective face gear is more irritating than others. When choosing which to buy, opt for cotton ones where you can. These protective masks provide folded cotton protection and can be washed at 90-100 degrees. Therefore, they can be used repeatedly and are super cost-effective!

3.Double Cleanse To Thwart Effects Of Face Mask-Infused Skin: Oskia Perfect Cleanser, £35, www.facethefuture.co.uk

Credit: Face The future

There has never been a better time than now to begin the K-beauty double cleanse you’ve been meaning to get around to. Wearing aggravating masks cause irritation and skin reactions, so get your double cleansing jig on and make your complexion happy. Right now, I love Oskia’s Cleanser and BeBareFaced Mineral Cleanser.

4.SPF 50+: Try SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral Defence SPF50, £37 (50ml), www.lookfantastic.com

this is how to look after your face mask-infused skin - skinceuticals spf
Credit: Look Fantastic

You know how you laugh when you see avid sunbathers who have clearly had a long enjoyable day at the beach – and forgotten to remove their huge glasses? The same applies to the mask. You really don’t want a stripy tan around your eyes and nose. Not a good look. With the warm weather well on its way, it is even more important to put on that sun cream. I’m in love with SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral Defence.

5. Look After Your Skin With A Different Type Of Mask: Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Porerefining Face Mask, £39.90, www.amazon.co.uk

this is how to look after your face mask-infused skin - sand and sky pink clay mask

Right now, we should all be giving our complexions a bit of TLC. Pink clay offers a wealth of skin-loving benefits that will help to draw out and eradicate any impurities and toxins. Furthermore, pink clay provides much-needed nourishment and aid your skin in restoring its pH balance. Do this and you will thwart dreaded breakouts whilst ensuring your complexion receives some calming relief.

6. Hyaluronic Acid Will Look After Your Skin: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, £5.90, www.cultbeauty.co.uk

Wearing a face mask regularly, particularly in the heat, causes extra sweating and therefore moisture loss. Combat dry patches and dehydrated skin by applying the hyaluronic acid serum. Having the ability to absorb and retain moisture with superhero-like strength, this component is a must-have.

7. Drink Water

As well as giving your skin the topical ingredients it needs, it is equally important you look after your body from the inside. Make sure you thoroughly rehydrate by drinking plenty of water.

5 irresistible beauty products too good to miss - bobbi brown concealer
Credit: L A Beauty

Every makeup fan must have a good concealer to complete their arsenal, and Bobbi Brown’s Full Cover Concealer is one of the best. Slightly thick and matt in texture, but somehow it feels weightless. This highly pigmented formula achieves exactly what it professes to do. You get immediate and full cover – and the upper hand over any imperfections you wish to conceal. There is no creasing or settling (the most crucial point, other than the right colour of course).

My skin suits the beige shade perfectly (there are 13 shades available). Although you may think this concealer is pricey, it is well worth the cost. A little goes a long way and when you finally find the right one (it’s like reaching nirvana). At last, the search is over! Phew.

beauty products too good to misss
Credit: Amazon

I have tried several nail art pens in recent months, but sadly none of them really cut the mustard. Until I tried this one. Available in 5 shades: black, orange, pink, silver, and white. I have a silver pen and I am 100% smitten. If you are new to nail art pens, the idea is to apply your base and/or polish, then grab your pen and get creative (once your polish is dry, obvs.).

I painted some gorgeous little love heart designs on red polish, and they looked awesome. One of the best things is that if you make an error, you can just wipe it away. This is a good thing, particularly if you are attempting creativity the morning after the night before! I highly recommend this pen. Great fun, easy to use, and fab results.

4.Irresistible Beauty Buy: SkinCeuticals Retinol Night Cream 1%, £69.99 (30ml), www.cosmedic-clinic.co.uk

Are you fed up with looking at your reflection and seeing more pesky age-related skin issues, that quite frankly, just do your head in? Well, I have a product that may just help. Okay, so if you’ve seen my posts, you may already be aware of this product. That is because, yes, I’m totally obsessing over it – it’s THAT good. Usually priced far higher (around the £110 mark), this retinol cream is available at £69.99 from Cosmedic-Clinic. Yes, it’s too good to miss!

retinol skinceuticals

The night formula is great for those who are accustomed to using retinol. It is not an overnight magic wand and you must remember to apply at least a few times a week. After a month you will begin to see a significant improvement to skin concerns. Pesky lines and wrinkles appear reduced, skin looks and feels firmer and generally a hell of a lot better! All you have to do is keep putting it on and it works as you sleep. Now, that’s my kind of product.

5.Tan-Luxe Instant Hero Skin Perfector, £22 (150ml), www.lookfantastic.com

5 irresistible products - tan-luse self tan

The self-tan is ideal for when we have the opportunity to go out for date night and we are pushed for time (dreams). Failing that, if you are simply lazy (like me) and don’t think about how your legs look until you throw on your dress to do your daily exercise – also an unmissable beauty buy!

Featuring vitamins: A, B, C & E, as well as aloe and caffeine, your skin will be a beaming light of radiance and your face will be nothing but smiles.

The Term ‘Anti-Aging’ Shouldn’t Be Slated: Here’s Why

Hey, Lovelies!

The term ‘anti-aging’ and any who use it, have received serious backlash in recent months. The claim is that it is deemed derogatory towards people above a certain age. A key point is that it sends the message: older people cannot be beautiful, and all should attempt to fight signs of aging. The term ‘anti-aging’ exists due to human nature. It built the foundation for an incredibly lucrative beauty industry. Why? Because the truth is as a whole, no one wants to look older.

Yes, it is inevitable and yes, we all age. No, this does not mean you are suddenly ugly. However, gravity gets us all. As we get older, the skin isn’t as firm and us all (if we are honest) would like it to stay where it’s always been for as long as possible. The beauty industry has tapped into this need and provided a wealth of products to tackle the globally felt concern. Some products work well, others – not so much. None will permanently rectify specific concerns. That’s life.

The point I am making is that people may suddenly have a beef with the beauty industry for using the term ‘anti-aging’. However, it wouldn’t be booming if we didn’t want it. Yes, marketing (as with all products) may persuade people to become customers for certain brands. But the base fact is, the majority of us don’t want aging skin.

We are physical beings who want to look our best. If we are tackling sagging skin and wrinkles where there was once firm luminosity, we will want it back. It’s not derogatory to dislike wrinkles. It is okay to not want to embrace the fact that skin is getting older, and to want to lessen its impact. The term is simply reflecting most peoples’ thoughts. I don’t understand why people are getting on the bandwagon about the term anti-aging when if we were truthful, the reason the products sell is simple: Getting older has lots of upsides but we don’t want age to show on our skin.

The terminology is simple and to the point. Products called, ‘graceful aging’ or ‘mature beauty’ is vague and probably won’t sell. People want to know the products they buy are tackling their key concerns. We shouldn’t be shamed for desiring that and the beauty industry should not be slated for accommodating our wishes.
