The Best 6 Tips To Keep Your Mind Sharp

Hey lovelies,

With a recent study claiming that women’s brains stay active for longer than men’s, I thought I would compile a list of the best tips that can help us keep our minds sharp. When I was in my teens, walking into a room and forgetting what I wanted was funny – but nowadays it’s a tad concerning.

Some of these methods may be quite surprising but have been proven to be very effective. Read on:

1.Use Your Opposite hand

This is the one I found quite interesting and has been shown to actually connect new neurons and help your brain to adapt. When brushing your hair or your teeth – If you are left handed, use the right, and vice versa. It’s amazing how successful this can be in keeping the brain sharp.

2.Try A Puzzle

This is one I find difficult as I really can’t stand crosswords or sudoku. However, by pushing yourself to tackle a code word puzzle of some sort, it definitely helps to sharpen those wits.

3.Sleep

I really can’t state enough just how important getting enough sleep is in keeping your brain functioning well. In the same breath, too much sleep can be detrimental to your physical and mental wellbeing. Usually 7-8 hours is sufficient, but you need to take age and any illnesses, etc. into consideration.

4.Learn A Foreign Language

OK so (unless you are like Joey from Friends) you may be thinking you need to have some serious amount of spare time to learn an entire foreign language, but if you break it up into a couple of half hour sessions a week, it becomes a much more realistic possibility. However, it does take a bit of will power.

5.Math

Just the word makes ‘math’ makes me go into meltdown mode – but doing a few maths sums in your head truly does work wonders in keeping your mind sharp. Motivation does kick in when your son repeatedly asks you maths questions (and then answers them faster than you and actually correctly).

6.Music

This would be my fave one of all. Listening to music actually works to improve brain function. No need to find excuses now!
