The Best Cleaning Hacks For Lazy Girls And Guys

Hey Lovelies!

A little secret – I can’t stand cleaning the house. This is down to part-laziness and part-despair, because let’s face it – cleaning is a never-ending thankless task. For me, it feels like the family have some kind of radar. It’s as if they wait until I have just finished hoovering, scrubbing, mopping and then pounce. Within minutes all making the house look decent, it is very quickly and effectively undone.

If I didn’t find it so soul-destroying and hideous I would be forced to admit the family have mastered the process of destruction to the point where it is an exceptionally talented art form (that in some parallel universe, might be admired). Not this one, though. If this sounds familiar, fear no more. I have discovered some awesome cleaning hacks that will not only clean beyond your wildest dreams but achieve a gleaming maison in a fraction of the time. Thank you, God,

1.The Dreaded Oven Rack

This is probably one of the worst jobs for me. Not so any more. According to EHow, all you need is white vinegar, baking soda and a scrubbing pad. So, I tried – and woah, it actually works!

Simply place the racks in the sink, spray them with vinegar, then cover them in baking soda and go and have a cup of tea. On your return to the kitchen for your tea top-up, cover them with hot water and leave for approximately 10 minutes. Finish your tea and biscuits then scrub off the grime (it takes literally no effort) Yay!

2.Pet Urine

So cute, i know. However, there’s ALWAYS a downside. There really is nothing worse than a urine-stained carpet, but thankfully there are two really good solutions that mean you don’t have to scrub away for hours on end, only to discover the smell or stain won’t budge.

Once you have blotted away as much liquid as possible with paper towels, either mix 50% white vinegar with 50% water and soak the area, or if this isn’t effective enough, mix some washing-up liquid with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide and soak. The latter one is pretty invincible and will work on practically all carpets, mattresses, etc. Use a scrubbing pad to work into the stain, then cover the area with baking soda, rub with your scrubbing pad then hoover up. Hey presto!

3.The Mattress

I know, right?!? You even have to clean your mattress. Is nothing sacred? Apparently, this is quite important for those with allergies and asthma, and although the above gif looks like the perfect answer, I don’t fancy the effort this would probably take. So I am now taking note.

According to various online sources you simply need some baking soda, essential oil (optional) and a hoover. What could be easier? Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to a tub of baking soda and sprinkle all over your mattress. Rub in the solution and then leave it alone for an hour (the perfect amount of time to watch your favourite programme). When an hour or so has passed, nip upstairs and hoover the mattress, then turn and look in slack-jawed amazement at your cleaning expertise.

An ordinary concealer may make the situation worse as it can cause a cakey effect so close to the eye area, thus emphasizing any bags/lines instead. Eye Bags – What Might They Be?

I hope you’ve all had an awesome weekend. At 3am this morning I realised it didn’t matter how much antioxidant packed cream I slathered on my eye bag riddled face, there wouldn’t be a cat in hell’s chance (weird saying, I know) of looking anything like a fresh daisy today; I was right. Appearing radiant and refreshed required some serious sleep time – or maybe not. Cue the following incredible (and simple) hacks to banish those eye bags forever.

 1.Cool Cucumber

Finally, a good use for cucumber! This age-old hack is one of the best treatments for a savage attack of puffy eyes and eye bags. Slice two pieces of refrigerated cucumber, place them over your eyes and take half an hour’s rest. Within seconds, you literally will feel their magic work. This amazing fruit offers ascorbic and caffeic acid that greatly reduces water retention and thus diminishes puffiness and swelling.  2.Egg Whites

Egg whites are another fantastic treatment for dreaded eye bags. They combine proteins and the skin nurturing vitamin E that work in unison to firm and tighten the delicate skin under the eyes. I have not used this method for long enough to confirm, but it is reported that over time this treatment can offer a long-lasting improvement for sagging skin and wrinkles, as well as reducing pigmentation. Hooray!

Should you be running late and need a quick fix, try the tea bag trick. The idea here is to wet the tea bag in ice cold water then rest over your eyes for 10 minutes. The powerful astringent qualities of tannin are highly beneficial in cooling, soothing, diminishing water retention and unsightly pores as well as tightening the skin. The result is a fast and significant reduction in swelling, puffiness and people gently asking if you are ok!

6 Tips To Help Your Hair Grow

We all crave for those Disney Princess-esque hair, but the reality is that colouring and everyday heat styling wreaks havoc, making the chances of thick lustrous locks about as real as winning £168 million on the lottery. Fortunately, there are a few things we can all do to help our hair grow that little bit faster, and look that much better. Read on:

1.Condition

Yes, you may well be running late for that date, or just not feeling energised enough to give a rat’s ass if you skip the conditioner. Think again, because unless you condition each time you shampoo, your hair will end up looking, well, like a rat’s ass – and believe me, come tomorrow you will care.  Find the right conditioner for your hair type and make sure you invest in a good brand. Conditioner replaces lipids and proteins, will seal your strands and prohibit further breakage.

2.Regularly Trim

Putting off that trip to the hairdresser’s because you have almost reached that length, will not be beneficial. Regular trims will keep those pesky split ends in check, ensuring your hair stays in optimal health and thus will grow that little bit faster.

3.Use A Hair Mask

Take the time each week to apply a good hair mask or hair oil treatment. Kerastase offers fabulous results, however if you don’t want to invest in a product, DIY masks such as coconut oil, honey and virgin olive oil provide an incredible alternative.

4.Lay Off The Heat

I’m sorry to say that no matter how much heat protection you apply, heat styling will damage the hair. Should your hair be particularly brittle, take it easy on these tools.

5.Cold Water (Yowch)

Sounds grim, (especially as the winter months draw in) but rinsing your hair with a cold blast of water will seal the hair and lock in moisture. You will be amazed at how much difference this little hair hack makes.

6.Brush Carefully

Don’t ever attack your hair with your brush. Not only should you take time to find a brush to suit your hair type and condition, but you should ensure you are treating your hair with the extra TLC it requires. Doing this prevents breakage, reduces damage to the scalp and will ultimately support faster hair growth. Yay!
